About HFD Federal Credit Union

In 1937, a group of 11 Honolulu firefighters formed the Honolulu Firemen Federal Credit Union, which later became the Honolulu Fire Department Federal Credit Union – Hawaii’s only firefighter credit union!  Since that small start on January 6, 1937, we’ve grown to become Oahu’s 15th largest credit union serving active and retired Honolulu Fire Department firefighters, civilian employees of Honolulu Fire Department, and any active member of the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, Local No. 1463 and the Federal Fire Fighters of Hawaii, Local F-263.

While our products and services we provide may look and feel exactly the same as those offered by those non-credit union institutions, our purpose is vastly different; Focused solely on our members!

As a federally-chartered, federally-insured financial cooperative, Honolulu Fire Department Federal Credit Union is a member-owned and member-governed financial institution like the other 7,000 credit unions across the country.  Overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of active credit union members, HFDFCU is built on and operated today on the principles of the entire credit union industry, which include:
